TW-400 Installation
On a Honda
VTX 1800
|
The
Installation description and photographs were
submitted by Hugh S. of Florida. The pictures
were taken a little over a year ago, but we
really appreciate that Hugh eventually submitted
them.
Helpful
hints:
1-It
is not necessary to remove the gas tank. But
it will help if you remove the rear mounting
bolt, and elevate the back end of it as this
will allow access to the frame under it.
2-Always use a solvent, or rubbing alcohol on
any location you intend to mount a component
with the Velcro of double-sided adhesive foam.
3-Soldering your connections, and insulating
them with heat shrinkable tubing or electrical
tape produces a neater job and it is easier
to repair the bikes electrical wires if you
ever want to remove the alarm in the future.
4-The wire locations used for this install are
as straightforward as it gets, and should save
you a lot of time and effort.

Starting
the install.
1- Remove the seat and expose the battery compartment.
2- Install the Speaker, and siren. Note that
in Number 1, the speaker is mounted under the
upper frame in the area between the engine heads
with the adhesive reinforced with a tie wrap,
and in Number 2 the siren is mounted to the
hydraulic line just in front of the battery
by tie wraps only.
3
Tthe antenna has been mounted in front of the
front engine head with Velcro on the inside
of the vented chrome piece (for illustrative
porpoises the wire of the antenna is shown in
white. It is also recommended that this wire
be insulated to prevent any possible grounding
that could effect its range. Use a piece of
#18 wire insulation after the wire has been
pulled out of it. A piece from a black wire
will render the antenna undetectable in this
location. |

4-
Remove the right side cover and pull back the
wire
Harness protector. This exposes the orange and
light blue turn signal wires. Solder the two
yellow wire leads to them as shown in Number
4. By piggybacking the wires you prevent any
unnecessary cutting, and possible future failure
of the original circuitry. |

6-The ignition
interrupt wires are put across the kick stand
switch interrupt wire. This is located at the
large gray plug that is located near the battery.
Making sure you leave enough wire to do the
job. Simply cut the Green wire with the gray
stripe on it, and solder the pink and gray wires
in series to it. Ill #6 & #7. |

7- Now locate
the black harness protector just in front of
the right half of the battery and pull it back
away from the connector. Number 8 Unplug the
two halves of the connector and locate the red
wire with the blue stripe on it. Using a small
screwdriver to compress the connectors retainer
clip. Pull this wire from the plug and solder
the brown wire to it. Number 9 When doing this
take care to apply too much solder, as this
will prevent the reinstalling of the connector
into the plug assembly. It may also help if
you mark which socket you pulled the connector
out of with a magic marker. |

8-The only thing
left to do at this point is to place the control
module in place under the seat the location
in Number 10 worked fine for me with the addition
of the blue foam piece for extra support.
